Apple ’s Black iBooks

The rumour mill is working at full speed these days with regards to what will be the next move made by Apple Computers. In advance of the Macworld Expo in January 2006 there has been a lot of speculation about what might be unveiled. We at The Brig believe that the ‘soon to be announced’ Intel powered iBooks will be offered in the traditional White and also in the now familiar Black. Both Black and White will be available for the new 13.3 inch model and the 12.1 inch model. The basis for this rumour is based on the recent history of releases by Apple, and the huge popularity of the black iPod nanos and videos.

The better sale performance of Black coloured models has been widely observed in the iPod product line and would be expected to be observed in the Intel powered iBook line as well. The Brig expects the Black iBook to preform more strongly in sales upon initial release citing reasons as a “more classic, professional appearance” and “a look that some customers are more comfortable with”.

This story is a Brig Exclusive and promises to develop further.
We will post updates as they become available.

We’ve done up some mockups to see what a black iBook might look like.

I’d buy one, but I highly doubt it’ll happen.

What are you basing this on besides conjecture?

Why are you so sure he’s wrong? G3 Powebooks have been black so why would apple not produce black iBooks when launching the new Intel models?

He will either be wrong, or he will right, there is no “completely” wrong is not different to wrong.

You are upset because he made digg.com and your site didn’t.

Keep on dreaming man ! The world needs more optimists.

I wanted to inform you all that I did post my speculations about this very same topic of black iBooks on my website. I can assure you, it was purely coincedental, and I gave you credit. I posted mine on digg, and many people did inform me.

Sorry about that,
Brandon Speck

Hate to say, this doesnt make a lot of sense acording to apple history. One of the biggest reasons apple changed the powebook color from black to something else is that it A) lost huge to most other colors in product consumer testing and B) retained too much heat due to the color (same as the car paint principle.. darker cars are hotter than lighter).

its deffinitly photoshopped/gimped because you can see the rough edges. Like on the “apple” on the top left you can see a speck of extra white.

Stefan, I’m pretty sure this isn’t meant to be interpreted as fact. It is simply a sound theory that is based on previous events. There’s really no need to flip out over someone’s educated prediction over what will happen.

With the top down, it looks pretty reminiscient of the late nineties G3 PowerBook.

At first I thought this would be a good move for Apple - but just look at the mock up!, It looks way too dark and I don’t think the keyboard would be practical to be the same color since it would be so difficult to see the keys!

Just a reminder, this isn’t the first time they’ve done black portables. Remember the G3 powerbooks?

What I am waiting for is a shiny black iMac. I’m a bit surprised that Apple hasn’t made any of those.

I DO hope that happens. I have no problem with the current color, but since I am a long time user of PoweBook, I want Apple goes back to “the Black days.”

I personally prefer the white version. If apple makes a black version, the only reason is act like a special edition, because white is their trademark too. And ppl, chill off. why be so angry about one guy exposing his ideas to the web? if you dont like, dont say a word, i think its better than threatening and beeing rude.

I would not rule this idea out. My first complaint when Apple moved away from the Pismo PowerBook G3 design to the Titanium PowerBook G4 design is that they were not black after the entire PowerBook line was black for years! It seems to me that Apple is giving everyone an easy choice for colors these days. Steve Jobs seems to be quite the enlightened individual, and black and white is like yin and yang. Apple is all about karma, baby! Steve even says so himself when talking about buying music from iTunes. Black and white means choices, but simple ones. Who doesn’t like black OR white?!
